ya, if I were him, for $2500 I would go with turboback exhaust, recirc valve, engine managment and CAI. He doesnt need a FMIC just yet cause the turbo isnt that big. But its definately a ton bigger than mine. Im upset that surbaru put such a tiny turbo on the 2008, but i think they were looking to try to make the car respond faster with little turbo lag. His car is definately fast as fuck from a roll already.

If your buddy puts $2500 into his MS3, you're probably going to be in trouble, especially from a roll. That will buy him an intake, full turbo back exhaust and a front mount intercooler which will put him well over 300hp.

All in all, theyre two great cars and pretty good prices, the wrx may take a bit more work, but if a street/strip super sleeper is what youre looking for, either one is a great option. Though most 2008 wrx owners, like myself, are pretty pissed at the 2009 wrx being so much better, at near the same price. We feel very ripped off. Subaru should have a suspension and turbo trade in option for the 2008 to bring it up to 2009 par. im mean 45hp increase in a single model year??? bullshit.

I still feel that both cars will come out pretty equal if they are trying to obtain very high hp and handling ability for around the same price. The stuff on the 3 that makes it so awesome from the factory would mostly get replaced anyway, sway bars, springs, control arms, etc and the turbo, intake and exhaust would be replaced. same with the WRX, so all thats left is engine and drivetrain. The 3 has adv. in 6 speed gearbox and direct injection, wrx has adv in awd and larger displacement.

The only thing hes done to his is a BOV. He does have trouble sticking the front tires to the ground on launch though, but that may be because the tires have about 18K miles on them. If he put another $2200 into his car and worked out the launch problem, he would have a car that would contend very well with the STI in most performance measures, whereas I still have suspension work and a larger turbo to go. |
